Steyn reckons that Jansen’s exploits could make a strong case for him to take a massive bid in the upcoming Indian Premier League mega-auction.
The legendary South African pacer, Dale Steyn made a bold claim regarding the 24-year-old Proteas all-rounder after his stellar exploits with both bat and ball during the third T20I between India and South Africa on Thursday.
South African all-rounder, Marco Jansen showcased his versatility as he smashed a quickfire 54 off 17 deliveries and picked up one wicket while giving away just 28 runs in his four overs during the high-scoring thriller between at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Steyn reckons that Jansen’s exploits could make a strong case for him to take a massive bid in the upcoming Indian Premier League mega-auction where franchises could be caught in a battle of bids to secure the services of the all-rounder.
The South African fast-bowling legend, took to social media to share his thoughts. He said, “Marco Jansen. A 10 crore player? I’d say so”.

Jansen has already built up experience of playing in the IPL. He rose up the ranks when playing for the Mumbai Indians in the 2021-22 season. He then made the switch to the Sunrisers Hyderabad where he played from 2022 to 2024. But now he could look to make a move elsewhere with the Hyderabad-based franchise making the trio of Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen their retentions.
Many franchises could do with the skills that Jansen possesses and it could see that his stocks go up considering his abilities to bowl 140+ kph and also use his long levers to strike the ball far with ease, making him an ideal all-rounder to have in your side.
The 2024 IPL mega-auction is set to begin on November 24 and 25. The auctions will be held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). It’s the second time in history that the IPL auction is being held overseas. Last year, a mini-auction was held in Dubai.
Genuine all-rounders can still be considered as a sought-after commodity and the upcoming auction could see Jansen get the big bucks.
Jansen will likely be back in action once again as both India and South Africa prepare for the fourth and final T20I set to take place at the Wanderer’s stadium in Johannesburg on November 15.
