India will face Australia in the first semifinal match of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Tuesday (March 4) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian men’s cricket team will face Australia in the first semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday (March 4). The match between the two most successful teams in Champions Trophy history is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and will start at 2:30 PM IST. The winner of Tuesday’s match will face South Africa or New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final on Sunday, March 9.
The Indian team has been in red-hot form in the ongoing eight-team ICC event and has entered the semifinal on the back of winning three matches in a row. On the other hand, Australia chased down the target of 352 runs in the first match against England, but its next two matches against South Africa and Afghanistan got washed out due to rain.

The Indian team will face Australia in an ODI match for the first time since the ODI World Cup 2023 final on Tuesday, and Rohit Sharma’s men will be eager to take revenge. A win will book India’s place in the final of the Champions Trophy for the third edition in a row.
The Indian team enjoy a good record in the Champions Trophy against Australia. The Men in Blue have won two out of four matches played so far against the Men in Yellow.

India beat Australia by 44 runs in Dhaka, 1998
In its first-ever Champions Trophy match, India faced Australia in Dhaka on October 28, 1998, and managed to get the better of them by 44 runs to book a place in the semifinal. Sachin Tendulkar scored 141 runs from 128 balls for the Mohammad Azharuddin-led side to help them post a total of 307 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs. He also picked up four wickets for 38 runs in 9.1 overs to dismiss Steve Waugh & Co. for 263 runs. In that match, apart from Sachin, Ajay Jadeja scored 71 runs from 65 balls, and Javagal Srinath and Sunil Joshi picked up 2 wickets each.
India beat Australia by 20 runs in Nairobi, 2000
In the quarterfinal match of the 2000 Champions Trophy as well, India faced Australia and once again defeated them by 20 runs to book a place in the semifinal. Yuvraj Singh made his ODI debut for India in that match and scored 84 runs from 80 balls as a No. 5 batter to take the Sourav Ganguly-led side’s total to 265/9 in 50 overs. The target of 266 runs proved too much for the Australian team led by Steve Waugh, and they got all out for 245 runs in 46.4 overs.
Australia beat India by 6 wickets in Mohali, 2006
Ricky Ponting’s Australia beat India by six wickets in the Group A match of the 2006 Champions Trophy played at PCA Stadium in Mohali on October 29, 2006. Virender Sehwag’s 65 off 90 balls and captain Rahul Dravid’s 52 helped India post a total of 249/8 runs on the board, which Australia chased down for the loss of just four wickets in 45.4 overs. Damien Martyn remained unbeaten on 73 runs, whereas Shane Watson and Ponting scored 50 and 58 runs, respectively.
Washout in Centurion, 2009
India faced Australia in the Group A match of the 2009 Champions Trophy in Centurion on September 28, 2009, but that match got washed out due to rain. Before the rain hampered the match, Australia had reached the total of 234 runs for the loss of four wickets in 42.3 overs.
The match in Dubai on Tuesday, March 4, will be India’s first meeting against Australia in white-ball format since the 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 match in Gros Islet on June 24, 2024.
