The second semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025 between New Zealand and South Africa is currently underway at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner won the toss on Wednesday (March 5), after which, riding on centuries from Rachin Ravindra (108) and Kane Williamson (102), Kiwis have posted a total of 362 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets. The Proteas now need to chase down the target of 363 runs in 50 overs, and if they manage to achieve the objective, then they will book a place in the final against India.
India chased down the target of 265 runs against Australia in Dubai on Tuesday (March 4) to win the first semifinal and qualify for the third straight Champions Trophy final.

352/5 by Australia vs England in Lahore (February 22, 2024)
In the Group B match of the Champions Trophy 2025, Australia chased down the target of 352 against England at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore for the loss of just five wickets in 47.3 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis scored an unbeaten century (120) to help the Men in Yellow secure a famous win.
322/3 by Sri Lanka vs India at The Oval (June 8, 2017)
India failed to defend the total of 321 runs against Sri Lanka in the 2017 Champions Trophy Group A match played at The Oval on June 8, 2017. Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, and captain Angelo Mathews scored 76, 89, and 52* runs, respectively, to help the Sri Lankan team reach the target of 322 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 48.4 overs.
308/2 by England vs Bangladesh at The Oval (June 1, 2017)
Joe Root’s 133 not out, Alex Hales’ 95, and captain Eoin Morgan’s 75 from 61 balls helped England chase down the target of 306 runs against Bangladesh in the 2017 Champions Trophy match played at The Oval in London on June 1, 2017.
297/3 by Sri Lanka vs England at The Oval (June 13, 2013)
Sri Lanka beat England by 7 wickets in the 2013 Champions Trophy match played at The Oval in London on June 13, 2013. England posted a total of 293/7, and Sri Lanka chased it down in 47.1 overs for the loss of just three wickets. Legendary batter Kumar Sangakkara scored an unbeaten 134 runs from 135 balls for the Angelo Matthews-led side in that match.
282/4 by South Africa vs England in Dhaka (October 25, 1998)
In the first quarterfinal match of the 1998 Champions Trophy, South Africa chased down the target of 282 runs against England for the loss of just four wickets in 46.4 overs. Opener Daryll Cullinan scored 69 runs, and captain Hansie Cronje made 67 from 56 balls. Jonty Rhodes remained unbeaten on 61 runs from 63 balls to seal the deal for South Africa.
No team has ever managed to chase down more than 352 runs in an ICC event match and South African team will have to create history on Wednesday if they want to book a place in the summit clash against India.
