When Rohit Sharma leads India at the Champions Trophy 2025, it will be the 17th ICC competition of his storied career. Rohit, 37, is aiming to win his second ever ICC title as captain having last year overseen a memorable triumph at the T20 World Cup.
A clip shared by the Indian cricket team shows Rohit counting the number of ICC tournaments he’s been part of while heading for the Champions Trophy photoshoot alongside his teammate Ravindra Jadeja.
Of course, he forgot to include a couple tournaments before quickly realising his error.
“9 T20 World Cups, three 50-Over World Cups, two Champions Trophy and this one 15th…There’s World Test Championship too…so two of them makes it 17. They’ve called me 17 times to do all this,” Rohit says in the video.
“Yours must be the same,” Rohit tells Jadeja.
“I haven’t played in 2007 and 2012,” responds Jadeja.
The two then can be see putting their ‘Games Faces’ for the photoshoot.
Later, Jadeja can be seen enquiring about Shubman Gill’s ICC tournaments.
“T20 World Cup, 2023 ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy (2025) …,” says Gill before being reminded he has also been part of World Test Championships.
Rohit-led India start their Champions Trophy campaign on February 20 when they face Bangladesh in Dubai. India have been placed alongside Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand in Group A.
India last won the tournament in 2013 when they beat England in a rain-affected final. India also qualified for the title clash of the 2017 edition as well but then lost to Pakistan in what turned out to be a one-sided final.
Meanwhile, a report claims that the India cricketers will be allowed to take their families for the Champions Trophy for one match in Dubai. This comes days after another report stated that the BCCI is unwilling to make exceptions as part of its new guidelines.
