Rohit Sharma came out to bat at number six in the second Test between India and Australia of the five-match series for the Boarder-Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

The Indian captain had missed the opening Test in Perth, which India won by 295 runs, to be with his family for the birth of his second child.

Rohit managed just three runs and was trapped by Scott Boland after 23 deliveries.

Boland was the sole change in Australia’s playing XI after Josh Hazlewood was ruled out due to injury.

Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist feels that Rohit Sharma’s front foot was stuck which led to his lbw dismissal off Boland on the opening day of the pink-ball Test in Adelaide.

“Hazlewood was Australia’s best bowler in Perth but having Boland playing here as his replacement is not bad. Boland is tall, but you wonder if the ball would have hit the stump if it had been Hazlewood. Boland has the ability to skid the ball through. It did so here. Rohit Sharma’s front foot was stuck and that’s a good night,” Gilchrist said on commentary.

India were struggling at 82/4 in 23 overs at Dinner break with Rohit and Rishabh Pant on the crease.

Post dinner break, Boland struck by getting a fuller ball to catch Rohit in the crease and go past his inside edge to trap him lbw.

Mitchell Starc claimed a career-best 6/48 to bundle out India for 180 inside two sessions of the day-night Test match.

“I don’t know. I can’t tell. Feel like the ball has been coming out well, we did not play that bad, they played better than us in Perth. [on if he visualised getting swing first-ball to Jaiswal] Not that much to be honest. Nothing really changes game by game, was a nice start. [on the weather conditions] Certainly did not help the engine, got a bit cramped at the end. It [the pink ball] goes through weird patches, won’t do much and then does go, day 1 you expect with a little bit of grass to do a bit, maybe with the forecast we have it dries out a bit later on but apart from the first hour when we were a bit wide we were good,” Starc at the innings break.
