Adil Rashid got the better of Virat Kohli once again after scoring 52 runs in the third ODI against England in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The leg-spinner now shares the top spot for dismissing the Indian batting icon across all three formats.
After England chose to bowl first, Adil Rashid got the big wicket in the 19th over. The bowler opted to go with the flighted delivery which drifted in and spun away from the batter, forcing the edge to the keeper. Kohli looked in good touch but again outdone by a brilliant delivery.
With this dismissal, it makes it the 11th time Rashid has dismissed Kohli across all three formats. He has gotten the Indian batter out four times in Tests, five times in ODIs and twice in T20 internationals respectively.
New Zealand’s Tim Southee and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood also share the feat having dismissed Kohli 11 times in 37 and 29 matches respectively across all three formats.

Kohli came into the game in dire need of a big score as India looked to put in their final touches of preparations ahead of the Champions Trophy. While teammate Rohit Sharma has gotten a big score under his belt, many expected Kohli to also deliver once he returned to the side. He had missed the first ODI against England due to a minor knee injury.
Despite making his return in the 2nd game, he fell for just 5 runs off eight balls to Rashid. It could be a worrying sign regarding his struggles against spin. In fact, in all the ODIs he played following the T20 World Cup, he has been dismissed by spinners who took the ball away from the right-hander.
The big positive is that Kohli has a fifty to his name, a big positive for the team ahead of their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. With all the focus on India’s CT 2025 campaign, the onus will be on Kohli to ensure that the batting can continue to find his best form where he scores the big runs for his side. With his experience and ability to score big, it would not be surprising if he came to his best form during the tournament as well.
