Dewald Brevis has smashed 68 off 32 balls on his Hampshire debut in T20 Blast, leading to a 106-run win against Essex.

Star Chennai Super Kings batter Dewald Brevis on Friday smacked a 32-ball 68 on his debut for Hampshire in England’s T20 Blast tournament against Essex, helping his team post a whopping 230/7 batting first and then thrash the opposition by 106 runs.
Brevis‘ innings went along with James Vince’s returning 62 off 31 and Toby Albert’s 54 off 34 as Hampshire posted a big total.
Michael Pepper’s 51 was the high point of their innings as they fell a long way short, with Liam Dawson picking 4/26 and Scott Currie 3/20, Hampshire recording the largest T20 victory at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
The 8000-plus fans were the highest for an opening day of the T20 Blast at the venue in the last eight years and were treated to some brilliant run-scoring across a sunny double-header on a belter.
Asked to bat first, Albery and skipper Vince added 97 runs for the opening wicket before Matthew Critchley dismissed the latter in the ninth over.
Albert and Brevis then built an 80-run partnership for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by veteran off-spinner Simon Harmer.
Brevis had spent the majority of the afternoon standing on his balcony practising, looking eager for his chance.
Where Vince had dealt in boundaries, Brevis cleared the skirting over and over again, each four met with a group seemingly playing fancy dress at the game.
While Brevis and Vince were going all guns blazing, Albert was anchoring with a half-century in 28 deliveries.
Mohammad Amir and Paul Walter picked up two wickets apiece to restrict Hampshire to 230, although the damage was already done.
In the chase, Essex lost Dean Elgar on just the second ball of the innings. Wicketkeeper Adam Rossington and Pepper then added 40 runs for the second wicket before the former was dismissed by James Fuller.
Pepper and Walter then built a 50-run partnership for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed by Currie.
Essex couldn’t build any more partnerships from thereon and folded for a paltry 124.

A late inclusion into the squad, Brevis scored 225 runs in six matches at an average of 37.5 and a strike rate of 180.
