Australia have been handed a blow as their big-hitting opener Matthew Short has been ruled out from the Champions Trophy semifinal clash against India in Dubai due to an injury. Short picked up a quad injury during Australia’s final Group B match against Afghanistan last week and will not recover in time to be fit for the crunch game.
The world champions have promoted traveling reserve Cooper Connolly as Short’s replacement. Connolly is a batting allrounder who can bowl left-arm spin and given how India’s left-arm spinners have fared in Dubai, Australia might be tempted to play their former U19 world cup captain in the first semifinal of the tournament slated to be held on March 4 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
