Akash Deep has shared his current road to recovery as the Bengal pacer looks to make his return to the national side.
The Indian fast-bowler Akash Deep has provided an update regarding his fitness after he was ruled out of action for the Sydney Test and is set to miss the upcoming T20I series against England.
The 28-year-old pacer was not picked in the final Test against Australia due to a stiff back and has revealed that he is waiting on the National Cricket Academy’s clearance to get back on the field and start bowling again.
According to an interview with PTI, the quick bowler has been recommended to take some rest for two weeks and has yet to bowl since sustaining the injury.
“All good. My recovery is on course and since I had been playing non-stop cricket for a considerable period of time, I was advised to off-load (complete rest) for 15 days. I am following the advice of NCA and once they instruct me to start bowling, I will do so,” he revealed.
Deep has been making significant strides since making his Test debut. After many impressive performances, reports had suggested that he was in the running to get a debut in the limited-overs format, but due to the injury, he might not get to make his white-ball debut this time round.
Deep’s discipline with his line and length is arguably one of his best assets. In addition, his awareness of when to be attacking or defensive makes him a big threat to the best of batters. Should he not be able to get the breakthrough, his focus shifts to building the pressure by blocking the runs so that the wicket could fall on the other end.
“I would be given a brief that in case I am not getting wickets, I should do the holding job at one end, slow down the game, and run-flow so that things are under control,” he revealed.
“My endeavour was to maintain discipline, bowl in good areas and wait for the batter to make a mistake…doesn’t matter if the ball is new, semi-new or old,” said Akash Deep.
The Bengal-based pacer will be keen on making his return to the national side and hopefully establish himself as a long-term option for India’s pace attack.
