Akash Deep produced a magical delivery on the fifth ball of New Zealand’s second inning on Saturday (November 2) to breach Kiwi captain Tom Latham’s defence and rattle his stumps. The left-handed batter could only manage to score one run from four balls. After getting rid of Latham, Akash celebrated in an aggressive manner, and the video of it is now going viral on the internet.

Latham hammered 91 runs for the Black Caps in the second inning of the 2nd Test, which his team won by 113 runs in Pune last week.

In the ongoing third Test, India rode on half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant to post a total of 263 runs on the board and take a 28-run lead at the end of the first inning of both teams. While Gill top-scored for the hosts by making 90 runs, Pant hammered 60 runs from 59 balls. The duo added 96 runs for the fifth wicket in the morning session before Ish Sodhi trapped Pant in front of the wickets.

Gill was unlucky to miss out on a deserving century, but after his dismissal, Washington Sundar took the charge and played a couple of big shots to take India’s past New Zealand’s first inning total of 235 runs. He remained unbeaten on 38 runs from 36 balls.

For the Kiwis, Ajaz Patel picked up five wickets for 103 runs in 21.4 overs, whereas one Indian batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Matt Henry, Glenn Phillips, and Ish Sodhi.

At the tea break on Day 2, New Zealand was reeling at 26 for 1 in nine overs, and they still trail India’s total by two runs.

India has already lost the series after going down by 8 wickets and 113 runs in the first two matches played in Bengaluru and Pune, respectively. Despite losing the first two Tests, India still sits at No. 1 position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table.

India is ahead of Australia due to decimal points but will drop below them if the match ends in a draw or New Zealand win it by any margin.
