Anvay Dravid, the youngest son of the former India cricketer and T20 World Cup-winning Head Coach, Rahul Dravid seems to be following in his father’s footsteps as he scored his maiden hundred for Karnataka in the Vijay Merchant Trophy on Friday.
In the U-16 clash at the DVR Ground in Mulapadu, Anvay played a massive role in his side salvaging points with an unbeaten 100 off 153 deliveries including 10 boundaries and two maximums.
Karnataka hit back against Jharkhand’s 387 in 128.4 overs with 441/4 thanks to centuries from the opening pair of Arya J Gowda and the captain Dhruv Krishnan. Syaamantak Anirudh also chipped in with 76 runs, in addition to Anvay’s hundred.
Anvay also led the Under-14 state team last year and more notably, smashed an unbeaten double hundred for the Bangalore Zone in the KSCA U-16 Inter-Zonal tournament.
Rahul Dravid’s eldest son, Samit who is 19 is also on a similar trajectory where he was picked for the India U19 squad for the multi-format series against Australia U19 set to take place from September through to October. He will also be a part of the Maharaja T20 trophy where he represents the Mysuru Warriors.
The former Indian cricketer’s magic touch has worked with his children who look like promising stars for the future. Currently, the Indian icon is with the Rajasthan Royals where he returned as the Head Coach following the T20 World Cup 2024 win with India. He was the Head Coach of the Senior Men’s cricket team for three years from 2021-2024 when the national team saw their most dominant period having made the finals of the World Test Championship for the 2021-23 cycle, the ODI World Cup 2023 and won the T20 World Cup in Barbados as well.
Should the junior Dravids continue to impress as they rise above the ranks, it is only a matter of time before they will be working with the big man. It remains to be seen whether they can take their game to a level where IPL franchises would be interested in investing their resources, which could prove to be a massive boost for their careers.
