Sunil Gavaskar once again mocked Harry Brook for his ‘smog’ comment after England’s Champions Trophy exit, this time asking him if Lahor’s lights were a problem.

Sunil Gavaskar once again didn’t miss a chance to take a dig at England youngster Harry Brook for his ‘smog’ comment during their recent white-ball series against India. After the Englishmen’s exit was confirmed from the 2025 Champions Trophy, thanks to their back-to-back group stage defeats to Australia and Afghanistan in Lahore, Gavaskar sarcastically queried whether the lights at the Gadaffi Stadium were ‘ok or not’.
Afghanistan sneaked in a stunning, narrow eight-run win over Jos Buttler’s side in their first season of the Champions Trophy. Ibrahim Zadran’s record-breaking 177 set them a target of 325/7. Joe Root took England close with his 120 but an inspired bowling effort saw Afghanistan seal the win in the last over. Brook got out for 25 (21), losing his wicket via a rather soft caught and bowled against spinner Mohammad Nabi.
“I just saw Harry Brook’s dismissal. Are the lights in Lahore ok or not? Because when he played in Kolkata, he said that he couldn’t see the ball properly because of smog. That’s why I’m asking. I hope the Lahore lights are fine? Because the catching practice he gave to get out… I don’t know,” Gavaskar said on the DP World Dressing Room Show on Ten Sports.
Back in India, Brook was bowled by Indian spinner Varun Chakaravarthy in the first T20I in Kolkata. At the press conference before the second match, the vice-captain ruffled some feathers by commenting, “Chakaravarthy is an exceptionally good bowler, but with the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick. Hopefully, the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier.”
In the next T20I, he got out the same way and Gavaskar was on air and quipped, “Varun Chakravarthy is looking at him, and saying look if there’s any smog there?”
Brook has had a torrid time since that match in Kolkata. He had a best score of 51 in the fourth T20I of the series, which England lost 4-1. England played three ODIs in India before two in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan and he hasn’t managed to go past even 35 runs once.
