Once touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Shaw finds himself without an IPL contract after Delhi Capitals released him and the batter went unsold at the recent auction.

Indian batter Prithvi Shaw, who broke onto the scene with a ton in his debut Test half a dozen years ago, finds himself in the wilderness after going unsold at the IPL Auction 2025, with all franchises opting against picking up the 25-year-old.
Once touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Shaw finds himself without an IPL contract after Delhi Capitals released him and the batter went unsold at the recent auction.
His poor run of form in recent times and the multiple controversies surrounding him have not helped his cause and a former BCCI selector recently hit out at the young batter for ignoring wise counsel from legends of the game including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting.
“Prithvi has been in Delhi Capitals. In DC itself, he had a chance to interact with Rahul Dravid, who was also his U-19 India coach, Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly,” the former selector said.
“It’s an open secret in Mumbai cricket that Tendulkar has also spoken to him,” he continued.
“Are these legends fools? Do you see any change in him? Even if there is, it is not evident,” the former selector slammed the 25-year-old.
It is believed that Tendulkar spoke to Shaw back in the year 2020 following a doping scandal that tarnished the name of the young batter. The legendary batter emphasised the essence of discipline to be able to make it in the sport.
There is no doubt that Dravid, the epitome of patience and focus, and Australian World Cup winner Pnting would have offered sound bits of advice to the batter too during his time under them at DC and at the Under-19 level. However, the selector accused Shaw of the counsel falling on deaf ears.
Shaw looked to be primed to get back to his best last year as he made an incredible 379 runs for Mumbai against Assam in the domestic circuit Ranji Trophy game, before adding a ton and a double-hundred for Nottinghamshire in the English county before sustaining an injury.
He had a noticeable innings in the Irani Cup for Mumbai last month but finds himself in a rough patch at the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the onus to turn his career around falls solely on his shoulders.
