The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh as the 2024 Men’s Cricketer of the Year in the T20I format on Saturday.
Arshdeep was India’s most prolific bowler in 2024, finishing the year with 36 wickets in 18 matches at an impressive average of 13.50, and ranking him as the eighth-best T20I bowler in the world.
His standout performance came in the T20 World Cup, finishing with the second-most wickets in the tournament with 17 scalps from eight games.
In fact, only four players in the world took more T20I wickets than Arshdeep in the calendar year – Saudi Arabia’s Usman Najeeb (38), Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga (38), UAE’s Junaid Siddique (40) and Hong Kong’s Ehsan Khan (46) – with all four playing more matches.
Known for his accuracy and composure, Arshdeep excelled in the death overs, often turning games in India’s favor, and his ability to swing the ball early and execute pin-point yorkers at the end made him a complete package in T20 cricket.
His best with the ball came against hosts USA in the T20 World Cup, where he dismantled them with a fiery 4/9 spell.
The young pacer’s brilliance only continues to transcend boundaries as Arshdeep recently also became India’s highest wicket taker in the T20I format, claiming his 97th international wicket against England in the first T20I in Kolkata this past week.
He now eyes a bigger milestone: 100 wickets. Achieving the same will make Arshdeep the first Indian bowler to reach the historic landmark in T20I history.
