Arshdeep overtook the wily spinner’s total of 96 wickets with his second wicket of the night in Kolkata, the 97th of his T20I career, removing Ben Duckett in his second over.
The left-arm pacer initially equaled Chahal’s record by removing Phil Salt for a duck with just the third ball of the first innings.
Since his debut in 2022, Arshdeep has proven to be the strike bowler in the Indian lineup, claiming 95 wickets in just 60 matches.
