Mir, who celebrated the wicked of the Indian national side skipper in a rather subdued manner revealed that he is a big admirer of Rohit.
Jammu and Kashmir finished Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy league game against Mumbai on Thursday with a 54-run lead as the umpire clipped the bails to signal the end of the day with J&K at 174/7, after bundling out Mumbai for 120 runs.
J&K bowlers were the toast of the town for their incredible job with the leather as seamer Umar Nazir Mir and Yudvir Singh scalped four wickets each, while Auqib picked up the other two.
Among Mir’s four scalps, was the prized wicket of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who returned to the domestic circuit after a decade-long gap only to be dismissed for 3 runs off 19 deliveries.
“A good ball is a good ball against any player, you don’t look at the stature of the player, but Rohit Sharma’s wicket is a big one, I am happy,” Nazir sai at the conclusion of the day’s play.
“The first thought in my mind was…I did not celebrate, as a fan of Rohit Sharma. I know he is something, even though I dismissed him. I am a big fan of Rohit Sharma,” the seamer added.
Mir also expressed how incredible it would be for J&K to win the game with the skipper of the national side playing on the opposite camp.
“Even if we win this game, it would be a proud moment because India’s captain is playing in the opposition,” the 31-year-old added.
Mir managed to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube and Hardik Tamore in addition to Rohit on a day he finished with figures of 4 for 41 in his 11 overs.
“When you dismiss an international player, it is always a prized wicket. There was some help from the surface, I tried to bowl in the right areas,” Mir said.
“Rohit Sharma is a big name and his wicket was important for us and for me, personally, as well,” he added.
Mir also added that he was rather relaxed on the day despite the prospect of having to bowl to players who feature in the international circuit in the Mumbai camp.
“I slept off at 10 pm last night and woke up around 7 am and I was relaxed,” he concluded.
