KL Rahul came out to bat at No. 3 for India in the second innings of the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, which is currently underway at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but he failed to open his account and was sent back to the pavilion for a five-ball duck by Australian captain Pat Cummins. The 32-year-old right-handed batter was caught by Usman Khawaja in the slips on the last ball of the 17th over.

Rahul was the second Indian batter to get out in the morning session of the fifth day’s play. His wife, Athiya Shetty, was present at the MCG to watch the match, and she was left disappointed after KL’s wicket. A video of Athiya’s heartbreaking reaction to Rahul’s dismissal is now going viral on the internet.

Rahul arrived at the crease after Cummins dismissed Rohit Sharma for nine runs from 40 balls on the first ball of the 17th over. Rohit, who looked good on Monday morning, added 25 runs in 16.1 overs for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Rahul, who opened for India in the first three matches and scored a couple of half-centuries, was not able to do much with the bat in the first innings as well. He faced 42 balls and, with the help of three fours, scored 24 runs. In the first innings too, Cummins managed to take the prized wicket of Rahul by bowling a beautiful delivery that breached his defence and shattered the stumps.

After Rohit and Rahul’s wicket in one over, India lost Virat Kohli as well just before the lunch. The former India captain was caught by Khawaja on the first ball of the 27th over bowled by Mitchell Starc. Kohli, who has nine Test centuries to his name against Australia, could only manage to score 5 runs from 29 balls in the 340-run chase.

India finished the morning session of the fifth day’s play at a score of 3 for 33, and the visitors are still short by 307 runs from achieving the biggest total at MCG.
