Australia chased down the target of 352 runs against England in 47.3 overs on Saturday for the loss of five wickets in the match played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Australia beat England by 5 wickets in the Champions Trophy 2025 match played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, February 22. The Aussies rode on Josh Inglis’ maiden ODI century (120 runs from 86 balls) and Alex Carey’s 69 to chase down the target of 352 runs in 47.3 overs for the loss of five wickets. By securing a memorable win over the Jos Buttler-led side in Lahore, Australia broke Pakistan’s world record of chasing the highest total in an ICC event match, and it also became the first team in the world to chase a 350+ run total in an ICC event match.
During the ODI World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad on October 10, 2023, the Pakistan team chased down the target of 345 runs in 48.2 overs for the loss of four wickets.

In reply to England’s total of 351 for 8 in 50 overs on Saturday, Australia scored 356 runs in 47.3 overs for the loss of five wickets. Inglis scored a 77-ball century for the Steve Smith-led side and Alex Carey hammered 69 runs from 63 balls. Opening batter Matthew Short made a contribution of 63 runs and added 95 runs for the third wicket with Marnus Labuschagne (47 runs). In the end, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell also made his presence felt in the game by scoring quickfire 32 off just 15 deliveries.
By scoring 356 runs in the chase on Saturday, Australia not only secured its first win in the Champions Trophy since the final of the 2009 edition, but now it also holds the record for scoring the most runs in a Champions Trophy match. Aussies broke England’s record of 351 runs, which they posted in the same match.
After securing a famous win over Ashes rivals England, Australia will now face South Africa in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, February 25, and the winner of that match will almost confirm its place in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025. Like Australia, South Africa also secured a big win by 107 runs in the first Group B match played against Afghanistan on Friday, February 21.
