Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto remains unfazed about India missing the service of Jasprit Bumrah in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue will take on Bangladesh in the tournament opener in Dubai today. Ahead of the highly anticipated fixture, Shanto was asked if his team was relieved not to see Bumrah in the Indian squad.

Shanto first ignored a query by a scribe on Bangladesh being relieved at the prospect of not facing Bumrah and instead went on to speak about their preparation for the Champions Trophy.

When the reporter mentioned Bumrah again, the Bangladesh skipper said that he is more focused on executing the team’s plans rather than focusing on any individual player of the opposition team.

“I’m not someone thinking about any individual cricketer. I think they have a lot of quality players, so we are thinking about how we execute our plans,” Shanto said.

Bumrah was part of India’s provisional squad for the Champions Trophy. He picked up a back injury during the fifth and final Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia last month.

Bumrah was then withdrawn from the final squad with Harshit Rana replacing him in the 15-member line-up.

Mohammed Shami is likely to spearhead the pace attack along with Arshdeep Singh. India have roped in as many as five spinners (including three allrounders) and three of them are expected to feature in the playing eleven.

“I’m not surprised if they put two or three spinners because we have that idea what the team combination will be happen tomorrow. So, we have that, all the preparation. Last few days we had a good practice session, So we know how the challenge will come tomorrow,” Shanto said about India’s bowling unit ahead of the campaign opener.

The two Asian sides met in the semifinal of the 2017 Champions Trophy. India comfortably beat Bangladesh by nine wickets in the knockout clash before losing the final to Pakistan.
