Questions were raised over Arshdeep’s absence from the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy which India lost 3-1.

Is Arshdeep Singh ready to don the whites for India? This question was asked after a video of his bowling at the County Championship went viral on social media.

In the footage shared on X (formerly Twitter), Arshdeep was seen rattling the middle stump of a left-handed batter with a brilliant in-swinger. The movement of the ball was so unpredictable that even the commentators were left in awe.

The video was from the 2023 County Championship Division One where Arshdeep played for Kent. He bowled the dream delivery to dismiss Essex batter Paul Walter.

Arshdeep’s delivery pitched way outside the off stump. The batter attempted a front-footed defence but completely missed the line. “Oh, knocks him over. That’s a beauty from Arshdeep Singh. Top of off…bails flying, and that swung back in as well, wow,” the commentator was heard saying in a video shared by County Cricket on the X platform.

Once the old video resurfaced, questions were raised over Arshdeep’s absence from the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy which India lost 3-1. The Indian pace attack was spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah who bowled 151.2 overs across nine innings and wrapped up the five-match series with 32 wickets.

Many fans reckon Arshdeep’s swinging ability could benefit India during the Australia tour. The young pacer was a key component of the Rohit Sharma-led side that was crowned the T20 World Cup champions last year. Arshdeep picked 17 scalps at the ICC event and finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker with Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi.

A fan wondered, “I don’t understand why BCCI is ignoring him in Tests and ODIs. Man delivered in back-to-back T20 WCs and was also the highest wicket-taker of the 2024 T20 WC.” Echoing a similar sentiment, another noted, “Arshdeep is needed in all three formats of the Indian team.”

A person suggested “Arshdeep should be picked as the 3rd seamer for England Test Series. “India should utilise the left-arm pacer and will be proper support for Bumrah And Siraj,” he added. Criticising the team management, one user said, “Irony is when these players are at their peak selectors will not acknowledge them, they only select when there is no other option.”

After a humiliating defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, India will now shift their focus to white-ball cricket. They are slated to play five T20Is and three ODIs against England, starting from January 22. The home series marks India’s last assignment before the Champions Trophy.
