BCCI Issues Alert For IPL Franchises On Businessman With ‘Dubious Credentials’

The BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit has warned all 10 IPL franchises about a businessman with dubious credentials linked to punters and bookies. All stakeholders must avoid and report any interactions.

The Anti-Corruption Unit Of BCCI has issued an alert for all 10 IPL franchises and their officials warning them about a businessman of ‘dubious credentials’ in Hyderabad who has been attempting to lure the participants into corrupt activities. All stakeholders including the team owners, players, team, coaches, support staff, commentators have been asked to steer clear and report to the board if they had any interactions or connections with the businessman.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, the businessman has “clear links” to punters, bookies with proven records of being involved in corrupt activities in the past.

The individual in question has been posing as a fan to get close to the IPL participants and has been spotted at team hotels and during the matches.

The report adds that the businessman has been attempting to strike friendship with players and staff besides inviting them to private parties.

Additionally, the individual has also been offering gifts to team members and their families too. He is also tried approaching “franchise owners, players, coaches, support staff and commentators.”

IPL Spot-Fixing Scandal

In 2013, the three cricketers including former India pacer S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan were arrested for their alleged role in spot-fixing. All three received lifetime bans from the BCCI. In 2019, the Supreme Court set aside the life ban on Sreesanth who subsequently resumed his playing career.

Additionally, two IPL franchises – Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals – were suspended for two years for their owners being allegedly involved in betting case.
