The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are reportedly likely to request the International Cricket Council for an extension on the deadline to announce India’s provisional squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee could delay the announcement of the upcoming ODI series against England. It is also suggested that the BCCI could cite their recent commitments for their tour to Australia as a reason to extend the deadline. The provisional squad could include players that will take part in the upcoming 50-over games against England and India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad could be announced on January 18-19.

When it comes to the T20I squad, it is expected that the squad could be announced in the coming days and those who were a part of the Bangladesh series are expected to feature once again. Arshdeep Singh will be expected to spearhead the bowling attack and is tipped to feature in the 50-over series as well.

Mohammed Shami Expected To Return

Mohammed Shami on the other hand, is expected to get the clearance from the NCA’s Sports Science wing after having featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Bengal. His long-standing wait for international cricket is expected to end as he will likely be featured in the ODI Squad and the Champions Trophy squad.

Yashasvi Jaiswal on the other hand is tipped to get a call-up to the ODI setup and is on track to be a regular for the national team across all formats. The young southpaw has made his mark in Test cricket and could debut in the 50-over format during the upcoming England games. He could also be an option to open the batting for India’s CT 2025 squad.

Regarding Nitish Reddy, it is unlikely that the Hyderabad youngster, who had a stellar performance in the Tests against Australia, will play in the ODI games. But he will be a part of the T20I games against England.

India’s home series against England will begin with a five-match T20I series on January 22, followed by a three-match ODI series on February 6.
