In what has come as a major boost for the Lucknow Super Giants, star pacer Mayank Yadav joined the camp on Tuesday night and is all set to undergo some fitness tests to determine if he is fit enough to feature in the team’s weekend clash against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, according to a report in The Times of India.

Mayank was completing a long rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy after sustaining an injury during the Bangladesh T20Is last year.

Mayank’s last competitive match was six months ago when he featured in the T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.

Mayank has been out of action since then due to a back injury, and his return will be good news for the Lucknow camp.

Mayank’s comeback was further delayed by a toe injury during his time at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

While Mayank has got an all-clear from BCCI’s medical team at the CoE, he will be assessed by Lucknow’s head physio, Ashish Kaushik, and only a green signal from him will help him play against Rajasthan.

With a history of injuries- five stress fractures in just two years- the Lucknow camp will tread with caution when it comes to making Mayank bowl 24 balls in a high-intensity game.

Even in IPL 2024, Mayank played just four matches and was ruled out for the remainder of the season because of a side strain.

Six months later, Mayank made his international debut in Gwalior and played three matches, only to be ruled out again.

Lucknow have had a lot of injuries to deal with before IPL 2025 began and that has been troubling them even now.

Mohsin Khan was ruled out of the tournament and Lucknow brought in Shardul Thakur as his replacement. While the latter is the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament at the moment, he has been pretty expensive, with an economy of almost 11.

LSG are currently placed fifth in the points table with four wins in seven matches and a net run rate of 0.08. They lost their last match to the Chennai Super Kings by five wickets.
