It is often said that with true courage, even the toughest challenges can’t stand in the way of your dreams. This spirit shines brightly in Shivam Kumar, a resident of Boribans village in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, who has lived without both arms since childhood.
At just six-years-old, Shivam became aware of the world around him and realized he was different. But instead of giving in to despair, he turned adversity into strength, refusing to let his condition define his limits.
A Passion For Cricket
Shivam Kumar was deeply inspired by watching cricket and had a strong desire to play the game. Despite his disability, he initially watched others play but eventually decided to pick up a bat and try it himself. To his surprise, he succeeded and gradually started playing cricket at home.
Later, he would go to watch cricket matches with the village boys. One day, he expressed his desire to play, and although the boys laughed initially, they were amazed by his batting skills and included him in their team.
Encouragement And Support
Shivam shared how he used to watch cricket on TV and longed to play despite his disability. One day, he tried to play with a bat at home, gradually improving his skills.
When he went to play cricket with the village children, they doubted his ability to play without hands. However, Shivam insisted on playing, and during a match, needing 28 runs in the last over, he managed to score 23 runs, impressing everyone. His confidence grew, and his parents, seeing his passion and skills, bought him a cricket kit. Shivam has since played in many tournaments and performed well, both in batting and catching.
Dreams And Aspirations
Shivam Kumar remains passionate about cricket and continues to prepare intensely. He plays excellently despite his disability.
He never misses a single match when Team India is on the field, but his eyes truly light up when Rohit Sharma walks out to bat. As a devoted fan, watching his hero play brings him pure joy and inspiration. Shivam admires Rohit Sharma’s pull shot and tries to replicate it, though he has yet to master it.
Meeting Rohit Sharma is a dream Shivam Kumar hopes will come true one day.
