Legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist reserved big praise for star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and said that the 31-year-old could have lowered Don Bradman’s batting average of 99.94 as well had he played against him. Bumrah was on fire in the recently concluded five-match Test series between India and Australia. He played in all five Tests and accounted for the dismissal of 32 batters, which is the most by an Indian bowler in a Test series played away from home. But despite his super show with the ball, India could only manage to win one match in Australia and went on to lose the series with a scoreline of 1-3.

During his discussion with former England captain Michael Vaughan in the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Gilchrist rated Bumrah’s performance in the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and said, “I am not rating him; no number is befitting what he is in world sport. He would have ripped on Bradman’s peak in the matter of balls. It would have been much further south of 99 that he sits at (if he faced Bumrah). I would give Donald 35 out of Bumrah (in terms of batting average). You cannot have a reward that is high enough for him.”

Vaughan, meanwhile, rated Bumrah’s performance a perfect 10/10. “10/10. Well, he is as good as Gilly called him. The greatest sportsman of all time.”

During the five-match Test series Down Under, Bumrah broke the record for taking the most Test wickets by an Indian bowler in Australia, and he also became India’s most successful Test bowler in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries. In addition to that, the right-arm fast bowler from Ahmedabad also broke the record for taking the most wickets in a single edition of the World Test Championship by a fast bowler.

Bumrah, who is expected to take charge of India’s Test team in the coming months, led India in the first and fifth Tests against Australia and helped them secure a big win by 295 runs in the series opener played at Optus Stadium in Perth.
