The second Test, a day-night affair, gets underway from 6 December, and the visitors have begun their preparations. Rohit Sharma & Co even locked horns with the Australian Prime Minister’s XI, winning the rain-curtailed fixture by six wickets in Canberra.
Meanwhile, former India captain Virat Kohli was seen facing Jasprit Bumrah in the nets as the duo skipped the tour game after the opening day of the match was washed out. The ace speedster, who led India to a magnificent 295-run win against Australia, was seen bowling full throttle to Kohli in the nets.
Kohli roared back to form with a magnificent hundred in India’s second essay on Perth. The former captain scored an unbeaten 100, notching up his 30th Test ton. Kohli discovering his mojo comes as a massive boost for India ahead of the day-night Test. The last time India locked horns with Australia in a pink-ball Test, the visitors lost the game by eight wickets after getting bowled out for 36 in the second innings. It also marked Kohli’s last appearance as India’s Test captain.
However, before heading to Adelaide with a 1-0 lead in the ongoing five-match series, India produced an impressive show in Canberra. It was a 46-overs-a-side affair, which India won by chasing down an easy target of 241 in 42.5 overs, but they carried on batting till the end of the final over.
Shubman Gill dispelled all doubts about his thumb injury with a stylish fifty, whereas Rohit Sharma kept his cards close to his chest by coming in at No. 4 in the warm-up fixture.
Harshit Rana has already earned the vote of confidence from the team management with an impressive Test debut at Perth and picked four wickets here to strengthen his credentials as a wicket-taking bowler.
Still very raw at the international level, Harshit’s inexperience became his undoing during the first three overs as he wasn’t able to hit the right length with the pink ball.
