Shumban Gill’s record-breaking century (112 off 102 balls) and a complete bowling performance helped India smash an out-of-sorts England side by a huge margin of 142 runs in the final ODI of the three-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. With it, the hosts swept a 3-0 whitewash, with the overall scoreline of the tour (including the five T20Is) reading at a stunning 7-1.

Gill’s seventh ODI century in his 50th ODI — the quickest for any Indian — was well-supported by Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer’s 50s as India posted 356/10 in the first innings. Once again, the only joy England got in the second essay was from the 60-run opening stand after which every Indian bowler picked at least one wicket to slowly and methodically break the back of the chase. The visitors submitted in just 34.2 overs.
