Yashasvi Jaiswal did not hold back against the experienced Mitchell Starc as the youngster had some interesting words for the Aussie quick.
India’s left-handed opening batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal seemed to be enjoying the challenge of playing in Australia as he was seen having a war of words against Mitchell Starc on Day 2 of the first Test held at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Jaiswal, while batting in the second innings, looked better as compared to his first innings display. The 22-year-old remains unbeaten after scoring a fifty and also stitching a century partnership for the first wicket with KL Rahul as well.
With the momentum, firmly on India’s hands, Jaiswal after defending one of Starc’s deliveries took a moment to speak his mind.
“It’s coming too slow,” Jaiswal said. Starc, known to bowl in the 140kph mark, is no slouch when it comes to pace and Jaiswal’s words were likely to get under his skin. But Starc did not retaliate as he went back to his run-up with a smile on his face.
The young southpaw was dismissed for a duck in the first innings but returned stronger in the second innings to help India establish a lead of over 150 runs. Along with KL Rahul, the Indian opening pair have looked to be in good touch with the series being a tightly fought contest.
Jaiswal, playing his first Test tour of Australia, will be keen on scoring the big runs for his side. Having already proven that he can be a dominant force on home soil, succeeding on overseas tours will be next on his agenda as he aims to showcase why he is the future of the Indian Test team.
India was on the backfoot before the start of the Test with skipper Rohit Sharma missing out on the opening game, due to the birth of his second child. In addition, Shubman Gill also missed out due to a thumb fracture during practice. Mohammed Shami who has been a mainstay in India’s pace attack has not played in international cricket since the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
Despite this, the Indian team stood strong with Jaiswal leading the way with the bat as the visitors remained confident in their chances of securing a win in Perth.
