Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings will look to sign star Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the IPL 2025 mega auctions. Ashwin, who played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, was not retained by the Jaipur-based franchise on Thursday (October 31). According to a report in the Times of India on Saturday (November 2), Ashwin is on CSK’s radar.

Ashwin, who has 180 wickets to his name in the IPL, made his debut for CSK in the cash-rich league in 2009. He was associated with them till 2015 before joining the Rising Pune Super Giants, followed by stints with the Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals.

A couple of months ago, Ashwin had expressed his desire to play for CSK again in the IPL. The Chennai-based cricketer played in 97 matches for CSK from 2009 to 2015 and dismissed 90 batters.

It has also been reported by TOI that the five-time champions will use Right To Match (RTM) for New Zealand batter Devon Conway. Conway joined CSK in the IPL 2022 mega auctions, and in the last three seasons he has scored 924 runs in 23 matches for the franchise.

Apart from Conway, CSK would like to buy back Kiwi all-rounders Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Santner in the mega auctions, along with Indian pacers Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.

CSK have retained five players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. While it splashed out Rs 18 crore each for Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja, Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana was retained for Rs 13 crores and Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube for Rs 12 crores. Former Indian captain and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni will also play for CSK in IPL 2025 after he was retained as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore.

Dhoni quits as CSK captain ahead of the start of IPL 2024. He passed on the baton to opening batter Gaikwad, who has been with the franchise since the 2019 season.

In the 2024 season of the cash-rich league, CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs after losing the last league stage match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
