Rohit Sharma and Co will look to start strong in their campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 where they will be eyeing to extend their record as the team with the most wins in the tournament.
India holds the top spot in the tournament with a total of 18 wins from 29 games having participated from the 1998 edition all the way through to 2017. They have lost 8 games as well with three games ending up as no-result.
The Men in Blue are also the joint-most successful side in the tournament’s history along with Australia having picked up two titles. India won their first title in 2002, having shared the trophy with Sri Lanka as the match was abandoned due to heavy rain. Their next title came under the leadership of MS Dhoni where they beat England by 5 runs in the final with rain having reduced the game to 20 overs per side.
Australia, who are prolific when it comes to ICC tournaments, picked up their two Champions Trophy titles in 2006 and 2009 consecutively. They are the only side to have won back-to-back finals in the tournament’s history. The Aussies first won the title by beating the West Indies by 8 wickets with the Duckworth-Lewis method coming into play. Their second title came by beating New Zealand by 6 wickets marking the second title under Ricky Ponting’s leadership.

The Indian team will have to go up against the likes of Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand in their group-stage fixtures and the team would look to continue their brilliant form in the format and win all their games to ensure that they go through to the semifinals.
Pakistan come in as the defending champions having won the previous edition in 2017 by beating India with a whopping 180-run margin at the Oval Stadium in London.
While Pakistan are the designated hosts, all of India’s games, including the knockouts should they progress, will be played in Dubai after the Indian government did not allow the players and management to make the trip to their next-door neighbours. The tournament begins with hosts, Pakistan taking on New Zealand at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday.
