‘Dada You’re Awesome’: Shoaib Akhtar’s Response To Sourav Ganguly’s Recollection Of ‘Friendship Cup’ Between India And Pakistan

In the build-up to the latest installation of the heated rivalry, Ganguly recollected memories of the 1996 Friendship Cup match between the sides which was held in Canada. Pakistani seam legend Akhtar termed the southpaw an integral part of Indian cricketing history.

India and Pakistan are set to resume their historic rivalry when the sides take each other on at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on the 23rd of February in the UAE. The fixture had to be moved to a neutral territory after BCCI refused to send the Indian team to Pakistani soil for the ICC tournament.

In the build-up to the latest installation of the heated rivalry, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly recollected memories of the 1996 Friendship Cup match between the sides which was held in Canada.

“It was a Friendship tour only in name, but when Shoaib Akhtar is going to bowl at 150 kilometres an hour, where is the friendship in that?” the legendary southpaw was pictured stating in a Netflix promo.

Replying to the maverick batter, Pakistani seam legend Akhtar took to social media platform X to share an update that read, “Dada @SGanguly99 you’re awesome. Indian cricket is incomplete without you.”

The sneak peek into Netflix’s upcoming documentary ‘The Greatest Rivalry: India Vs Pakistan’ saw legends of the fixture recount their experiences in the heated rivalry.

“The biggest rivalry told by the legends who lived it Dive into a tale of passion, glory, and cricket’s fiercest rivalry in The Greatest Rivalry: India vs Pakistan, from 7 February, only on Netflix,” the OTT platform labelled their upcoming series.

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to begin on the 19th of February with hosts Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the curtain-raiser. India will get their campaign underway a day later against Bangladesh.
