The 41-year-old all-rounder, who played his last professional game for the Sydney Sixers two years ago and has served as the assistant coach of Thunder ever since, was forced into action following injuries to Cameroon Bancroft and Daniel Sams.
Australian veteran all-rounder Dan Christian came out of retirement to feature for Big Bash League side Sydney Thunder as the side grapples with a mounting injury list.
Christian, who played his last professional game for the Sydney Sixers two years ago and has served as the assistant coach of Thunder ever since was forced into action following injuries to Cameroon Bancroft and Daniel Sams.
Bancroft and Sams collided during their side’s game against Pert Scorchers last week and sustained a fractured shoulder blade and d a concussion respectively, adding to the heavy injury list that Thuder need to contend with.
Christian returned to action with an unbeaten 23 runs knock against Brisbane Heat and also managed to pick up a wicket in the winning cause.

Christian joined an elusive list of players to feature in the BBL after having crossed the 40-year threshold including the likes of the legendary Shane Warne, Brad Hogg, Brad Hodge, Peter Siddle and Fawad Ahmed.
“I made the decision during the off-season that a return to the BBL or any other T20 leagues was never entirely off the table for me,” Christian said.
“The body feels great, and I wanted to ensure I was prepared if an opportunity arose,” he continued.
“The incident with Cam Bancroft and Dan Sams was extremely unfortunate, but I’m really grateful for the opportunity it’s presented,” he added.
“I wish them all the best with their recoveries and hope they’ll be back in the park soon,” the 41-year-old concluded.

Christian has played over 400 T20 games across the globe and has featured for 18 different teams during his illustrious career in the shortest format of the game. He has also managed to clinch the BBL thrice, once each with the Brisbane Heat, the Melbourne Renegades and the Sydney Sixers.
