Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has picked former Royal Challengers Bengaluru stars Travis Head and Cameron Green as long-term replacements for Steve Smith and David Warner in the Australian Test team. Warner, who is Australia’s second-leading run scorer in international cricket, announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year, and Smith, who has more than 9500 Test runs to his name, is in the last phase of his career.

The right-handed batter was dismissed for a golden duck in the first innings of the first Test played between India and Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth last month.

During Cricbuzz’s HeyCB with DK show, when Karthik was asked, “Who would be the Smith and Warner replacement?” He mentioned Green and Head’s names and said both of them are high-quality players.

“I would say Travis Head and Cameron Green. These two will be the replacements. High-quality players. Green is not playing this Test series, but when he does start playing, we all know what a special player he is,” Karthik said.

Green, who is not playing in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and Australia due to injury-related issues, made his Test debut for the Baggy Greens against India in Adelaide on December 17, 2020. In 28 Tests played so far, Green has 1377 runs and 25 wickets to his name. The 25-year-old all-rounder was part of Australia’s playing XI that hammered India by 209 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final played at The Oval from June 7 to 11 last year.

Head, on the other hand, has scored 3273 runs in 50 Tests played so far. He scored a century against India in the WTC 2023 final and also top-scored for the Baggy Greens in the second innings of the first Test of the ongoing five-match series played at Optus Stadium in Perth last month.

Head was part of RCB in the IPL for two seasons and 10 matches played during the 2016 and 2017 editions of the cash-rich league; he hammered 205 runs for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
