Australian batter, Travis Head has gone on to support Rohit Sharma’s decision to stay at home with his family for the birth of his second child.

The Indian skipper, a vital cog in the Indian Test team will not be a part of the opening Test against Australia in Perth. The opener has become a key member of the side leading the batting unit at the top of the order and his absence could be a tough one for the team to make up for.

The Australian left-handed batter revealed that he would have done the same in his position. He felt that moments like these are ones that don’t come back, and it is important to be with the family at such a key point in their lives.

“We sacrifice a lot of things as cricketers. While we live a privileged life, we miss important milestones in our personal lives. You don’t get that time back. Hopefully, he returns at some stage in this series,” Head told the media at the Optus Stadium after Australia’s training session.

India will be without Rohit and Shubman Gill in the top order. The latter misses out the opening game due to a thumb fracture and the Indian team management hopes that the young batter can get back into the side for the remaining games.

Rohit on the other hand will reportedly return to the side ahead of the pink-ball Test at Adelaide. It is suggested that he would also take part in the warm-up fixture against the Prime Minister’s XI to prepare himself for the series.

While the Indian captain did not travel with the squad, he was seen practising in the nets in Mumbai, keeping himself active while not training with the squad. Rohit will also be keen to get back to scoring the big runs for his side after the team suffered a humiliating 0-3 series whitewash to New Zealand on home soil.

Head, on the other hand, does not intend to underestimate the Indian side who repeatedly fought against the odds to beat Australia on their home soil in two tours previously. India has also held the Border-Gavaskar Trophy title for the past 10 years, showcasing their dominance against their fierce rivals.
