The former South African skipper, on his YouTube channel, shared his thoughts regarding RCB’s purchases at the mega auction.
With the Royal Challengers Bengaluru having a new-look squad after the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League Mega Auction, the franchise is yet to make an official announcement regarding who would take up the responsibility of captaining the franchise. But AB de Villiers has given some news that will certainly be the talk of the town.
The former South African skipper, on his YouTube channel, shared his thoughts regarding RCB’s purchases at the mega auction. He suggested that there are reasons to be excited about this squad but still feels that they lack that wicket-taking spinner.
“I am quietly confident and fairly excited. I still feel we are lacking a mystery spinner, a match winner and an out-and-out wicket-taker. I wanted to use Chahal there and there were some other options, we had some opportunities and other really good spinners. But we got Krunal Pandya and a few other really good spinners in the team,” he shared.
ABD in the video also talked about the captaincy side of things for the franchise where he suggested that Kohli would take up the leadership duties once again, although the franchise is yet to confirm this.
“I don’t think it’s been confirmed yet but he will be captain,” he added.
RCB which was once a power-backed batting unit mixed with a frail bowling attack, now has a balanced squad that has firepower in almost every department.
Phil Salt and Kohli at the top of the order followed by Rajat Patidar, and Liam Livingstone make it a solid batting order.
In the fast-bowling unit, to partner Yash Dayal the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and the uncapped star Rasikh Dar. In the spin-bowling unit, Krunal Pandya, Suyyash Sharma and Jacob Bethell could form a lethal trio, especially in slower tracks.
Looking at the new season, RCB has certainly changed a lot of things for the better, but now it comes down to the players and whether they can end the long-standing wait for that maiden IPL title. Kohli has been with the franchise since the very beginning and has gone up the ranks within the team and international cricket, it only makes it right that he is allowed to have a winning moment with the franchise, that started it all.
