Plenty has been said and written on Pakistan’s forgettable exit from the ongoing Champions Trophy, a tournament they are also hosting for the first time in history. They suffered embarrassing defeats to New Zealand and India to crash out from the semifinals race which has triggered a wave of criticism from a bunch of former players including the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis among others.
The state of Pakistan cricket has been put into question with Akram asking for a revamp of the white-ball squad and bring in young players who have a fearless mindset.
On the other hand, Gavaskar claimed that even a ‘B’ Indian team would be able to beat Pakistan on current form. He also raised questions on the quality of Pakistan’s domestic tournaments while comparing them with IPL which has over the years provided quality players for the Indian team.
Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has suggested that the Akram should leave his commentary duties and instead start rebuilding Pakistan team.
He even offered his services to coach Pakistan, claiming to build a strong team within a year.
Yograj slammed Akram for taking a dig at his own players instead of contributing towards the revival of cricket in Pakistan.
“Wasim is earning money doing commentary. Go back to your country, organise a camp of these players. I want to see which one of you can help Pakistan win the World Cup and if not then resign. Mein jata hoon, ek saal mein team khadi kar kay dikhaunga tum yaad rakhoge (I can coach them. I will build this team in one year and you’ll will remember it),” Yograj told News18.
“It’s all about passion. I am spending 12 hours here (at his own academy). You will have to give your blood and sweat for your own country,” he added.
