England will aim to create history when their run of four straight T20I bilateral series defeat to India when they take the field in Kolkata at Eden Gardens. And former captain Michael Vaughan has backed the Jos Buttler-led side to get the better of their hosts this time around.

Of the five T20I bilateral series between the two teams (comprising at least two matches), India have emerged victorious four times while one ended in a draw.

“England will win 3-2,” Vaughan posted on X while predicting the outcome of the India-England T20Is.

India hold a slight advantage in the head-to-head records in T20Is against England having won 13 of the 24 contests so far while losing 11.

India will continue to be led by Suryakumar Yadav who will have allrounder Axar Patel as his new vice-captain.

“Axar has been given that added responsibility. We saw what he did in 2024 T20 World Cup. He has been with the team for a very long time right now,” Suryakumar said of Axar’s appointment as his deputy.

The next ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is slated to be held in India next year but Suryakumar isn’t thinking about the marquee event yet.

“There’s still a long way to go before the World Cup. I don’t want to think about that directly. It’s about making a team. Which player can do well in which position.  Which bowler can win a match on a given day single-handedly. So, all those things. It’s about playing the same group, most amount of games,” he told reporters in Kolkata on Tuesday.

He also praised India head coach Gautam Gambhir for creating a conducive environment in the dressing room.

“I’ve had the privilege of spending a lot of time with him. I know how he works. Without saying a word, he can read your mind. His coaching style is very simple. He gives us a lot of freedom and allows players to express themselves. He keeps everything straightforward and understands what’s going on in the minds of the players,” Suryakumar said.

“He ensures a light, relaxed atmosphere in the dressing room, which helps players perform at their best. We’re definitely moving in the right direction,” he added.
