There’s no price to be placed on greatness. Ashish Nehra recognizes the same, as the GT head coach stated that no amount of money could afford a luxury and a talent like Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Mumbai Indians has been home to Jasprit Bumrah since 2013, and there was no way the franchise was about to let him walk.

So, to no-one’s surprise, Mumbai Indians paid Bumrah the top retention price of INR 18 Crore making him the costliest MI buy in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In his 11 seasons with the squad, Bumrah has donned the jersey of Mumbai Indians in 128 games. In these matches, he has scalped 158 wickets at an economy of 7.33.

A player like Bumrah could have broken the market as franchises woud have fought tooth and nail to acquire the pacer. But, Nehra stated that there could have been no amount of money would have been enough to nab Bumrah away from MI.

“Agar jassi auction main hote to kya kya hota? 520 crore ka bhi purse kam padhta. (If Jasprit Bumrah was a part of the auction then what would have happened? Even a purse of INR 520 crore wouldn’t have been enough),” Nehra jokingly remarked, whilst speaking to Star Sports.

Bumrah though has also been impressing on the international stage with India, as the pacer recently took on the role of skipper in a historic win against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah launched a brutal attack on the Aussies before India bounced back to thump the visitors and go 1-0 up in the series. The stand-in captain bagged an eight-wicket match haul as India won the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy fixture by a massive margin of 295 runs.

“Bumrah has done it numerous times. He was leading the side as Rohit Sharma was not there, and he was under pressure. But Bumrah handled everything, and he should be praised for it,” said  Nehra when speaking about Bumrah’s captaincy.

“It was good to see a captain leading from the front knowing what happened in the previous series against New Zealand,” he added.
