Indian women’s cricket legend Jhulan Goswami has expressed gratitude for having a stand named after her at the Eden Gardens. Last year in November, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) proposed to name a stand in the former India and Bengal fast bowler’s honour in the ‘B’ Block of the iconic stadium. A couple of months after the announcement, Jhulan was felicitated during an event organised by the CAB on January 20. Sharing a glimpse of the ceremony on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “Honoured and humbled to have a stand named after me at the iconic Eden Gardens. This is not just my moment, it belongs to every girl who dreams of making it big in cricket. Thank you for this unforgettable tribute.”

Jhulan Goswami was dressed up in a suave outfit for the honourable occasion. The legendary India bowler was clothed in a baby pink blazer that she paired with dark-coloured pants. In the video, she is seen greeting the crowd with folded hands before getting on the stage to receive a piece of cricket memorabilia. Jhulan then posed for a few pictures alongside former India skipper Sourav Ganguly and CAB President Snehasish Ganguly on the big stage.

The CAB proposal was a welcome move in the eyes of several retired and former cricketers. Jhulan Goswami earlier spoke about the massive recognition last year and described it as an ‘unimaginable’ dream. “I never imagined something like this would come to fruition. I would love to watch a match from there,” Goswami said, as per ESPNcricinfo. “For any cricketer, the ultimate dream is to represent her district, state or country, but receiving an honour like this is truly monumental,” she added.

In her 20-year-long career from 2002 to 2022, Jhulan Goswami established herself as one of the greatest bowlers in women’s cricket. She finished her international career with a world-record 255 wickets in 204 ODIs for India. The legendary pacer also scalped 44 wickets in 12 Tests and 56 dismissals in 68 T20Is. She is currently the record holder for the most wickets taken in women’s international cricket.

Jhulan Goswami has now joined the likes of Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy who are two other cricketers to have stands named after them at the Eden Gardens. The iconic venue in Kolkata also has stands bearing the names of two BCCI Presidents, Jagmohan Dalmiya and Biswanath Dutt.
