Kuldeep Yadav is not playing for India in the second ODI against England, which is currently underway at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. According to Indian captain Rohit Sharma, the 30-year-old spinner has been rested for the match. In his place, Varun Chakaravarthy is playing for India in the second match of the bilateral series. Chakaravarthy received his maiden ODI cap from Ravindra Jadeja before the toss.
“Two changes: Jaiswal makes way for Virat. Kuldeep is rested, so Varun makes his debut,” Rohit said on Sunday (February 9) during the toss.
Kuldeep bowled 9.4 overs for India in the first ODI played at Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6, and picked up 1 wicket for 53 runs. Kuldeep’s exclusion from the playing XI has come as a surprise for many fans. The Kanpur-based cricketer is one of India’s best bowlers in the 50-over format of the game and has 173 wickets to his name in 107 matches played so far.
In addition to Kuldeep, Yashasvi Jaiswal is also not playing in the 2nd ODI. Jaiswal was replaced by Virat Kohli in the playing XI. Jaiswal made his ODI debut for India in Nagpur and scored 15 runs from 22 balls. Kohli is all set to bat at No. 3 for India in the second match.
England has made three changes to its playing XI for the second match of the series. All-rounder Jacob Bethell, despite scoring fifty in the first match, has been left out of the playing XI along with fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse. The trio has been replaced by Mark Wood, Jamie Overton, and Gus Atkinson in the playing XI.
Atkinson played in the first T20I at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22 but was not considered for selection in the remaining four matches.
