The Indian men’s cricket team will travel to South Africa next month to take part in a four-match T20I series. The series opener is scheduled to take place in Durban on November 8, and the next three matches will be played in Gqeberha, Centurion, and Johannesburg on November 10, 13, and 15, respectively.

The BCCI took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce India’s squad for the last white-ball series of 2024, and in the team led by Suryakumar Yadav, there was no place for Mayank Yadav. The 22-year-old Delhi-based pacer made his T20I debut for India on October 6 against Bangladesh in Gwalior and impressed everyone with his performance. He played in all three matches of the home series and picked up four wickets.

He was in contention for a place in the Indian Test team as well for the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but missed out on a place in the side for South Africa T20Is even because of injury-related issues.

As per BCCI release, he was unavailable for selection due to injury, and a similar reason was given for the absence of all-rounders Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag from the side as well.

“Mayank Yadav and Shivam Dube were unavailable for selection owing to injuries. Riyan Parag was also not available for selection and is currently at the BCCI Centre of Excellence for long-term resolution of his chronic right shoulder injury,” BCCI said in a statement.

In the absence of Mayank, RCB pacers Yash Dayal and Vijaykumar Vyshak were added to India’s T20I squad for the first time in their careers, and KKR all-rounder Ramandeep Singh also earned his maiden T20I call-up.

All-rounder Axar Patel, who was dropped from India’s Test squad for the upcoming Australia series, is also back in the T20I team, along with pacer Avesh Khan, who was not picked for the Bangladesh series earlier this month.

India’s squad for 4 T20Is against South Africa: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (WK), Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ramandeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal.
