Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav is likely to be unavailable for the upcoming white-ball series between India and England, which will be played across five T20Is and three ODIs, starting from January 22.

After impressing with his express pace and control in IPL 2023, Yadav made his debut against Bangladesh in October last year. However, he was ruled out of the subsequent series against South Africa in the following month due to injury and is yet to return.

“He’s suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn’t even been named amongst the probables for Delhi’s first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23,” The Times of India quoted a BCCI source as saying.

The 22-year-old has been reportedly recovering at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

‘Rolls Royce Of Bowlers’: Jonty Rhodes On Mayank Yadav

Last year, LSG coach Jony Rhodes had described Yadav as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of the franchise, while also revealing then the franchise’s bowling coach and now India’s assistant coach, Morne Morkel, felt while seeing him bowl.

“I’m not a bowling coach, but Morne Morkel, during the previous season, when Mayank got injured at the start of the preparation, literally Morne said, ‘Wow, this guy (Mayank Yadav), he’s like the Rolls Royce of bowlers, similar to how we used to call Allan Donald a Rolls Royce. He is LSG’s Rolls Royce”, Rhodes told IANS.

“He had a whole season with the team and that’s why the owners decided to keep him with the team, he did all his rehab throughout the IPL, and stayed a part of the unit because we really believe that he is a young guy with extreme talent and we saw him in the games that he played and everybody was really monitoring him not wrapping him in cotton wool,” he further added.

LSG ended up retaining Yadav for a whopping Rs. 11 crore. He was retained alongside West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran, spinner Ravi Bishnoi, Indian young batter Ayush Badoni and left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan.

LSG would hope he’d be fit for when the IPL 2025 season kicks off later this year.
