Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman is all set to make a shocking exit, as a report suggests that he might retire from cricket very soon. According to sources close to the cricketer, as quoted by Samaa TV, Zaman might soon announce his exit from 50-over cricket, after being ruled out of the Champions Trophy.

Zaman, who has represented Pakistan in 86 ODIs, has discussed retirement plans with close associates in recent weeks.

In 86 ODIs, Zaman has scored 3651 runs at an average of 46.21 with 11 hundreds to his name.

“Champions Trophy will be my last ICC tournament. I want to take a break from ODI cricket,” Zaman said during his recent conversations, as quoted in the report.

According to the report, ongoing health problems have played a serious role in this decision. Zaman continues to fight hyperthyroidism and has been advised by doctors to rest for two and a half months.

Zaman has already been absent from all forms of cricket for over two months because of health concerns.

Zaman was ruled out of the ongoing marquee ICC event because of an injury, adding to an upsetting period towards the fag end of his career.

According to reports, Zaman has grown disillusioned with selection matters, regarding NOCs for league participation. He recently featured in the ILT20 last month.

As per the report, Zaman is considering relocating his family abroad, signalling potential broader changes in his professional life. He has one son, Zain.

The PCB hasn’t yet issued an official statement regarding such reports of Zaman’s potential retirement from ODIs.

Zaman picked up his recent injury off just the second delivery of the Champions Trophy when he looked to change course to get hold of a cover drive from Will Young off Shaheen Shah Afridi.

When Zaman collected the ball, he looked to be in some discomfort. After treatment on the field, he was taken off and remained out for over two hours.

“Representing Pakistan on the biggest stage is an honour and dream of every cricketer in this country. Unfortunately, I’m now out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but surely Allah is the best planner,” Zaman tweeted a day later.
