Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne has announced that he and his wife Rebekah are expecting their second child later this year. The Aussie top-order batter was recently featured in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he helped his team win the five-match Test series 3-1. Weeks after the bilateral tour’s conclusion, Labuschangne shared a post on Instagram to confirm that their small family would see a new addition, a baby boy, in April. “Our family of 3 becomes 4 with a little boy joining us in April,” Marnus wrote in his Instagram post. He also shared a series of his family photographs alongside his announcement.
The first picture was a monochrome frame featuring Marnus Labuschagne and Rebekah. The Australia batter was rocking a casual fit, including a charcoal-black shirt and a pair of light grey shorts. His wife was clothed in a classic white dress. In the photograph, the 30-year-old gently put a hand on wife’s baby bump. The remaining two photographs featured included the couple’s firstborn, Hallie. In the third snap, the little girl could be seen laying a kiss on her mother’s baby bump as everyone posed for the camera.
Marnus Labuschagne and Rebekah tied the knot nearly eight years ago in May 2017. They were blessed with a daughter five years later in September 2022. Ahead of Australia’s showdown against South Africa that year, Labuschagne had voiced how becoming a father helped him strike a balance between work and personal life. “Becoming a dad has probably helped me switch off a little bit from the game when I’m at home,” he said as per ESPNcricinfo.
Speaking further Marnus narrated how his life was different with and without the presence of his loved ones. “When my family’s with me, certainly the two differences between when they were with me in Perth to when they weren’t with me in Adelaide – I got to bed a lot later in Adelaide and I was watching a lot more cricket videos at night. In Perth, that wasn’t the case, I was getting to bed earlier, putting her [Hallie] to bed,” he added.
Marnus Labuschagne wasn’t at his best during the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He scored 232 runs across nine innings at a 25.77 average. He scored three fifties while failing to add a single hundred on home turf. Despite his shortcomings, Australia recovered from their defeat in Perth to reverse sweep the series with three victories.
