Team India and England face off against each other in the second ODI of the three-match series at Cuttack on a particularly hot Sunday in Odisha.
Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to his social media account to share an image of fans at the stadium receiving a reprieve from the heat thanks to a water spray with the caption that read, “Sweltering Barabati Stadium”.
England won the toss and opted to have a bat first as they made 304 runs in 49.5 overs thanks to half-centuries from Ben Duckett and Joe Root.
Duckett opened the innings with Phil Salt and notched up a 81-run stand for the first wicket before the latter fell to ODI debutant Varun Chakravarthy after adding 26 runs off 29 deliveries.
Duckett fell to Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja after scaling the fifty-run milestone en route to his 65-run knock. Harry Brook was removed by Harshit Rana for 31 off 52, while Hardik Pandya sent English skipper Jos Buttler back to the hit for 25 off 26 balls.
Root fell to Jadeja after adding 69 runs before Jamie Overton was dismissed by Jadeja for his third wicket after the Englishman chipped in with 6 runs off 10 deliveries.
Mohammed Shami scalped Gus Atkinson for 3 runs before Rana caught Adil Rashid short of his crease when batting at 14 off just 5. Liam Livingstone, who contributed to the English cause with his 41 runs knock was run out by Shreyas Iyer before KL Rahul ran Mark Wood out for a duck on the first delivery he faced as India bundled the English side out.
India opened the chase in positive fashion with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill racking up 48 runs before the play was halted for a while due to a malfunction in the floodlights. Play resumed after the issue was dealt with and skipper Rohit went on to complete his half-century.
