With the series level at 1-1 after the conclusion of the first two Tests, star Indian middle-order batter Shubman Gill says that Indian players are treating the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a three-match series now. While speaking to reporters in Brisbane on Friday, December 13, on the eve of the third Test between India and Australia at The Gabba, 25-year-old Gill, who top-scored for India in the second innings of the 2021 Brisbane Test, which India won by chasing down the target of 328 runs in the fourth innings, said that Indian players know that the Adelaide Test was a disaster, but still the series is level at 1-1, and if India manages to get the better of Australia in the third Test, then the visitors will have an upper hand in the next two Tests, which are scheduled to take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (December 26-30) and Sydney Cricket Ground (January 3-7, 2025).

Adelaide wala Test hamara acha nahi gaya, but still the series is one all (1-1). Yahan se teen match ki series hai hamare liye. Hum aisa maan ke chal rahe hai ki teen match ki series hai aur agar ye wala match hum jeet jaate hai, fir Melbourne aur Sydney mein mujhe aisa lagta hai ki humare paas upper hand rahega waha par (We did not like the Adelaide Test, but still the series is one all (1-1). From here it is a three-match series for us. We are going as if it is a three-match series, and if we win this match, then I feel we will have the upper hand in Melbourne and Sydney),” Gill said.

During the presser, Gill was also asked about India’s playing XI and who out of Harshit Rana or Akash Deep will get a game in Brisbane. In reply to the question, the right-handed batter said, “ye to I think kal he pata lagega.”

There are high chances that Harshit, who failed to open his account in both innings of the Adelaide Test and take any wicket as well, will make way for Bengal pacer Akash Deep in the playing XI, and Washington Sundar will replace Ravichandran Ashwin.
