Star Indian batter Virat Kohli is all set to take the field for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy game against Railways on Thursday and will appear in a domestic game for the first time since 2012. The return of Kohli to the domestic circuit has piqued the interest of the fans who seem eager to catch a glimpse of the superstar in action for Delhi.
The Delhi and District Cricket Association anticipates the arrival of over ten thousand fans to the Arun Jaitley Stadium to watch the star player in action. The DDCA announced that entry to the game for the fans would be free, but the supporters would have to bring their Aadhar Card along in order to be granted entry into the stadium.
“The Gautam Gambhir Stand will be open for the spectators. The fans can enter from Gate No 16 and 17. Gate No 6 will also be open for the DDCA members and guests. We are expecting a 10,000 crowd for the first day,” DDCA secretary Ashok Kumar Sharma said.
“It’s a free entry. The fans just need to bring their original copy of their Aadhaar card and its photocopy as well,” he continued.
“The arrangements for the fans have been made. It will be like any international or an IPL match,” Sharma added.
“This is not a normal Ranji Trophy match. Our Cheeku is playing,” Sharma said
“We have requested the Delhi Police to help us with more extra police force for the next four days. We’ll also have our own private security as well,” the DDCA secretary added.
There was a noticeable increase in interest in the Ranji game between Jammu and Kashmir and Mumbai following the appearances of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal for Mumbai and a similar reception is expected for the Delhi game with Kohli featuring in the group stage fixture.
“The kind of interest we had for the Mumbai vs J&K match, where Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal played was insane,” a Jio source said.
“With Virat Kohli playing in Delhi, we are expecting the same amount of attraction from this match as well,” the source stated.
“This is completely our prerogative. We took the call the moment Virat made himself available for the match,” he said.
