Delhi Capitals had a start-stop IPL 2024, and by the time they reached the business end of the tournament, they left it too late for that final push for the IPL 2024 playoff spot, eventually ending 6th on the points table. They missed the top 4 spot only by a whisker.

In their campaign, they failed to string together more than two wins in a row, and while there were flashes of brilliance from the batters, lack of consistency hurt them. There were definitely promising performances showcased by some young faces.

A look at the rising stars that represented Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024

Abhishek Porel

Abhishek Porel proved why he was rated as one of the most consistent and promising talents from the domestic circuit. Initially, in Rishabh Pant’s absence, Porel got his break in 2023, and continued to build on his momentum to notch up a fine 2024 season as well where he scored 360 runs at an average of 25.71 and a strike-rate of 152.54 in 16 innings, including two fifties.

Further, Porel can also contribute with the gloves and has been quite a safe option behind the sticks. Ther young gun has shown he can be more than a mere backup to Pant, for he is flexible with batting positions as well.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

Australian top-order batter Jake Fraser-McGurk made his IPL debut in 2024 after being signed as a replacement player for the injured Lungi Ngidi by the DC. In his nine matches for the franchise, the youngster lit the Delhi skies on fire, scoring 330 runs with an extravagant strike rate of 234.04. In his short career itself, the 22-year-old right-handed batter has established himself as one of the most dangerous white-ball batters, and with age by his side, many teams can look at him as a long-term investment.

The Aussie has been struggling in the longer 50-over format of the game on the international stage lately. But, with age on his side, one can expect Fraser-McGurk to work his way out of the rut and get back to smashing boundaries at will.

Rasikh Dar

Coming in as an uncapped player, expectations may not have been high from Rasikh. But, the pacer more than delivered with the ball, as he rose to the occasion and emerged as one of DC’s finest bowlers of IPL 2024, In a high-scoring season, the 24-year-old snared 9 wickets at a strike rate of 16.33 in eight innings, with the best of 3/34, whilst showing promise with his ability to have a roll of the arm at any point of the game and still be effective.

Although a work in progress, Rasikh has shown glimpses of his ability to bowl in the ugly overs and come out on top with head held high. So, he can prove to be an asset who can only blossom into his own self with time.
