Here’s a look at the top emerging players that turned out for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.
Sunrisers Hyderabad finished runners-up in IPL 2024 in what was a productive season for the franchise. They dominated teams with their batting prowess, redefining high-octane batting with their performances.
While they were explosive in the league stage, SRH looked completely lost in the title clash as their batting crumbled under the relentless pace attack of Kolkata Knight Riders. The entire batting order failed to find the necessary composure or patience to withstand the onslaught of Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell, and Harshit Rana, as they were dismissed all out for just 113 runs, the lowest-ever total in an IPL final.
SRH fell short in the final against KKR but left quite an impression. There were some eye-catching performances from their young guns including Abhishek Sharma whose free-spirited hitting during the season earned him an India debut earlier this year.
Let’s take a look at the rising stars who represented SRH last season –
Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek had a remarkable season, showcasing his growth as a batter. The young Indian opener formed a formidable partnership with the Australian Travis Head. The sheer intensity and power with which the 24-year-old batter struck his blows meant that SRH’s opponents were out of the game early on. He amassed an impressive 484 runs in 16 matches during the campaign with an average of 32.27 and an astounding strike rate of 204.21. Abhishek picked up two wickets too. He was retained by SRH ahead of the mega auction for Rs 14 crore.
Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish was adjudged Emerging Player of the Year in IPL 2024 having scored 303 runs at an impressive strike-rate of 142.92 and also taking three wickets. His all-round abilities have also propelled him to the Indian men’s national cricket team. The 21-year-old saw his valuation rise from Rs 20 Lakh to being retained for Rs 6 Crore.
Abdul Samad
IPL 2024 was 19-year-old Samad’s best season yet. The Jammu Kashmir batter was used primarily as an impact substitute and the pinch-hitter role suited him to a tee. He had a strike rate of 168.52, bettering his previous year’s 132.03. Given SRH’s good starts, Samad helped finish off the innings with much-needed aplomb.
