Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) spent their allotted INR 75 Crore and have a remaining purse of just INR 45 Crore to spend at the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auctions.
SRH retained Heinrich Klaasen (INR 23 Crore), Pat Cummins (INR 18 Crore), Abhishek Sharma (INR 14 Crore), Travis Head (INR 14 Crore), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (INR 6 Crore).
SRH’s retention strategy will likely involve domestic players and have historically trusted Indian bowlers and pacers, which may continue. They might also consider a pedigreed Indian spinner to balance their side. What may be a hindrance with their purse. Despite their intention to splurge on spinners, it’s unlikely they can afford an Indian big name.
SRH already have a fast-bowling all-rounder in Nitish Reddy and may seek an Indian spin-bowling all-rounder. Shahbaz Ahmed, Abdul Samad, and Washington Sundar were with them last season, and it’s possible they’ll buy back at least two. SRH could consider wrist spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal or Rahul Chahar.
Abdul Samad or Mayank Markande, now an uncapped player, could be used for their RTM.
The Indian bowling core is the department SRH needs to focus on. They’ve released all their specialist Indian bowlers and may use an RTM card to buy back some. SRH could offer him a new contract alongside Pat Cummins.
Mohammed Siraj, released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, could be a target along with RTMs being used on Bhubaneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, here’s a look at five players SRH can target on priority:
Krunal Pandya: Krunal Pandya is a three-time IPL winner with Mumbai Indians. Beyond his exceptional spin bowling skills, Krunal is also a formidable batsman capable of delivering match-winning performances. He can be the finisher basher in the lower-middle-order and chip in with overs at any point in the match.
Yuzvendra Chahal: Yuzvendra Chahal was not retained by Rajasthan Royals but the 34-year-old spinner has continued to be a formidable force in the IPL, picking up 66 wickets in the last three seasons. Given his continued performance, he will be sure shot wicket-taker also capable of stemming the flow of runs.
Mohammed Siraj: Mohammed Siraj is local Hyderabad boy and despite making his name with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he is certain crowd puller. The 30-year-old is talented but his journey has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows but will do well to not be the prime-bowler who can bowl up front and not worry about the death overs.
Avesh Khan: Avesh Khan has represented multiple franchises in the IPL so far in his young career and can finally find stability with SRH. The Indian international is a specialist death-over bowler who might just be in their budget.
Allah Ghazanfar: SRH and Afghan mystery spinner has some history and the 18-year-old star can be the next big thing. The 6’2 finger-spinner is capable of turning his deliveries both ways, and he used his skill to dismantle the Bangladesh batting lineup with six wickets. SRH can hope that they strike gold again like they did with Rashid Khan.
